Personal Training in Devon

Testimonials

When I moved down to the South West at the start of the year I was eager to find new ways to maintain and improve my fitness levels. Having been introduced through a friend to Matts circuit class on a Monday evening, I can’t imagine my weeks without it now! Every session is totally different, he knows how to keep you on your toes! I now attend his Thursday evening running club as well and would recommend Active Fitness to anyone and everyone!

I’ve been to circuit training in the past and loved it, so I was delighted when Matt started one in my village.  I wasn’t sure whether it would be any good, fitness instructors can vary so much in their quality but I thought I’d give it a go.  I was immediately impressed with Matt.  His classes are really enjoyable and give you a great workout.  That in itself is great, but perhaps not unique, I’ve enjoyed classes before, but there is something really special about Matt’s style and attention to each person in the class.  You know that on every exercise, each week, he’s watching to make sure you do it right and will kindly correct your technique if necessary.  He’s also making sure you push yourself.  He has an eye out for everyone’s level in the class and even across a really varied range of abilities he designs the circuits so everyone gets stretched just the right amount.  For me personally it’s been brilliant timing, and really demonstrates Matt’s personal approach to training, even in group classes.  When I found out I was pregnant Matt immediately adapted the necessary exercises for me and keeps doing so as my pregnancy progresses.  So I can join in with the others and still be confident I can get a good but safe workout.  It’s really hard to find a good exercise class when you’re pregnant and I wanted to keep doing the type of exercise I enjoy.  Matt’s been brilliant, I can’t recommend him enough.  I’m now 34 weeks pregnant and still going!  I’m looking forward to being able to pick up the classes after the birth too to help me get my shape back.

Two months before my 60th birthday I decided I really was going to lose the half stone I had been talking about for a long time.  I knew I did not have the will power to do this on my own and my daughter told me I needed to get fit!

I had never thought of a personal trainer before but put in a Google search and up came Active Fitness, the web site was good so I sent off an e mail, Matt gave me a ring and made an appointment for us to meet.  From the start Matt was perfect, he put me at ease realising that I was new to all this and found the whole thing a bit embarrassing to start with.

Our first training session was at home but after that we met at various placed including Exmouth beach,  The Maer and Belmont Park in Exeter.  Every session was different and interesting and Matt managed to find the right balance between encouraging and pushing me on, quickly discovering that it was no good saying ‘half way’ (when I would nearly stop) and much better to say ’10 seconds’ to go.

I never thought I would employ a personal trainer but I can really recommend Matt, he is good fun and very good at adapting to the needs of each client.

AND I AM NOW 7.5 POUNDS LIGHTER!

We came to Matt not knowing him at all, just hearing about how good he is at what he does.  We knew roughly the personality that we wanted in our personal trainer, fun, makes working out enjoyable, but also pushes us to our limits and can be serious when needed.  Matt has a really easy personality to get on with, he is really positive and he listens to what you want to achieve, and then prepares a workout personal to you.

The first session we had, we were a bit uneasy as expected, not knowing what we were going to do, whether he was going to push us really hard, or just let ourselves choose what level we work at.  But in fact we had no reason to be, as he was very enthusiastic and always listened to what you said.

We have had lots of sessions with Matt and all the time they vary in how hard we work, he always makes them interesting and fun.  We always have a good laugh, and the banter is great.  After seeing Matt for a while he gets to know you better and adapts the sessions around what works best for you.

In our opinion Matt is a brilliant trainer, he has worked with us very well and we get along really well.  We don't really think of Matt as a personal trainer anymore we think of him as a friend!
